Nić (Thread) 2009-22, film, animation, loop
Video work "Nić (Thread)" is a close-up of the hands of the artist's grand-parents, Danuta and Waldemar Kopciewski - former Fasty fabric factory workers - performing the job of bundling shoelaces with an apparatus constructed by Mr. Waldemar.
Zajko’s artistic interests were ultimately moulded by the relationship with his grandparents who had brought him up, and frequent childhood visits to the local factory. In his works, objects shown at the exhibition included, the artist reflects on the coexistence of man and machine, juxtaposing the uniqueness of touch, tenderness and effort of manual work with the coldness of machinery and standardised manufacturing.
The artist has devoted a number of projects and exhibitions to their history, including "Jaka Praca Dzis - Takie Nasze Jutro" (2018, Castor Projects, London); "We Were Here" (2019, Slendzinski Gallery, Bialystok)."
